The Jones Collection

It’s natural for people to speak highly of others when they pass.  But my kind words about how incredible of an artist my man Cool Cee Brown was (along with the homie Joe D.) would not be any different if he were still here.  You can see for yourself from this clip of a Dirty Water performance in 2006 @ The Black Cat in DC, along with The Els on back-up.

Big ups to my peoples Omar, Zo! and Slimkat (thanks for posting this up my dude).

This Saturday evening (after Record Store Day @ Joe’s) come out and Play It Cool one more ‘gain over at Kushi.  Shorty with the swim goggles will be there with some of her homegirls, and of course I’ll be in the spot playing that ‘get-right’ and administering ankle massages (as shown above).

This Saturday morning I’ll be over in Silver Spring celebrating Record Store Day @ Joe’s Record Paradise along with some homies from the DC Vinyl Headz crew.  We’ll be taking turns spinning whatever the f#ck we feel like playing…..on VINYL!  Slide thru to catch some tunes and cop some records.

I must take this moment to send eternal blessings to a special dude, a homie, and a uniquely ill artist.  My man Cool Cee Brown (also known as Akil Nadir) was one of the first artists in the DMV area that I spun for on a regular basis (with the group Dirty Water) and one of the first artists in the area that I became a big fan of.  His presence and essence will sorely be missed.

It’s that time of year again when the DC area’s best DJ’s come together to celebrate the life and legacy of James Dewitt Yancey/Jay Dee/J Dilla. The Diamond Cutterz DJ’s will be @ U Street Music Hall on Sunday, Feb. 23rd along with Ma Dukes and the homie Grap Luva to set it off just right.  This is hands down one of the best J Dilla tribute parties annually in the US.  Come see for yourself.
